Poison is The Oldies

Category: Entertainment

While listening to the radio the other day (Thank Heaven’s! Finally English music on Dutch radio!), I discovered that people here (or at least the radio station I have been listening to) categorised songs from the 90s like Sting’s Shape of My Heart (released in 1993), Alanis Morissette’s Ironic (released 1995), Green Day’s Warning (released in 2000) as well as the likes of Nirvana and Pearl Jams as oldies.

You read that right. OLDIES! I’ve never given that much of a thought really and to hear that those songs are now considered as oldies is my BIIIIIGGG OMG moment.

Eeeks! Hadn’t expected THAT!

I mean I grew up in that era, listening to such music and no, I’m far from oldies-old thank you very much. Now, let’s get this right as “oldies” to me would refer to songs from the 60s and before. Not those from the 90s onwards!

But I guess time has changed. What I would consider as “oldies” would now be ANCIENT. Still, I think that songs were way, way better from the oldies and the ancient eras.

That said, this song Poison by Alice Cooper has been playing in my head. Yep. An “oldie”. A grrrreeeeat oldie may I add.

Cheesy video, big hair, guys with eye makeup, skinny jeans….the works. All of which, especially those epic skinny jeans has made a comeback in this Millenium. See, oldie is cool!

Your cruel device
Your blood, like ice
One look, could kill
My pain, your thrill

I wanna love you but I better not touch (don’t touch)
I wanna hold you, but my senses tell me to stop
I wanna kiss you but I want too much (too much)
I wanna taste you but your lips are venomous poison
You’re poison, running through my veins
You’re poison
I don’t want to break these chains

Your mouth, so hot
Your web, I’m caught
Your skin, so wet
Black lace, on sweat

I hear you calling and’s needles and pins (and pins)
I wanna hurt you just to hear you screaming my name
Don’t want to touch you but you’re under my skin (deep in)
I wanna kiss you but your lips are venomous poison
You’re poison, running through my veins
You’re poison
I don’t want to break these chains
Poison

One look, could kill
My pain, your thrill

I wanna love you but I better not touch (don’t touch)
I wanna to hold you, but my senses tell me to stop
I wanna to kiss you but I want too much (too much)
I wanna taste you but your lips are venomous poison
You’re poison, running through my veins
You’re poison
I don’t want to break these chains
Poison (poison)

I wanna love you but I better not touch (don’t touch)
I wanna hold you, but my senses tell me to stop
I wanna kiss you but I want too much (too much)
I wanna taste you but your lips are venomous poison
Yeah, well I don’t want to break these chains
Poison (poison)
Runnin’ deep inside my veins
Burnin’ deep inside my brain (poison)
Poisoning (poison)
I don’t want to break these chains (poison)
Poison
(Poison) I don’t want to break these chains (poison)

This post is in conjunction with Stomper Dad’s Taboo Challenge  by not using the word  “FOR”  and “IT” for today.  That said,  I’m pretty damn impressed that there’s not a single “for”  and “it”** words in this song lyrics!

Join in the fun as well and add your link to take part in the challenge

TWC

**not exactly accurate as there’s one “It’s” somewhere in there and a couple “IT”, but I figured “IT” can be left out and there’s one  “IT’S” with an apostrophe which I’d consider as ONE word so that should be valid, shouldn’t it? In case it doesn’t, I have taken it/them out and got creative;  I’m wondering if anyone notices it!

  1. LOL Way to be creative! That’s what this challenge is for, well that AND’S having fun 😛 And 90’s aren’t oldies! They’re ’90’s. The best era for music!!

    • Sharp! 😉 See! I thought so too – 90’s aren’t oldies; but apparently that’s how the younger gens view the world now. The 80’s are good too, Eric! ;D

  2. Poison was the first single I ever bought with my own earnt money. It is an awesome track and not an oldie at all (anything 70’s or earlier is an oldie)

    • It’s super awesome track, Tracey. I bet it being the first single you bought made it all nostalgic! You are being tough with 70’s as a cut-off for oldies. LOL

When did you change your URL? I must have missed all that. Going back on! Good to hear from you again. x.

      • Because I decided to scale back the blogging both in terms of number of posts and how seriously I was taking it I also made the decision to go back to a hosted site. I wanted a new name to show its me, but not quite the same blog as before xx

  3. Then what do you call the real oldies? Historic? Lol. Dang, I’m old!

    • What’s the ‘real oldies’ would be the question! 50’s? 60’s? I like those from the 60’s too, but I’m upset enough the 90’s are labelled as oldies! LOL

  4. Hurts, hey, when those songs are labeled oldies and they make you feel young 🙂

  5. Haha! My best friend’s stepdaughter once asked him what it was like in the olden days…

    • Hahahhaa! How old is she?
Sheesh! In our “olden” days, we had cassette tapes and we waited (at least I did) by the radio to catch and record the songs that we wanted! LOL

  6. Yep, were getting to that age. Im 28, and Ive already heard people 21 and under, call 90’s music old. I grew up listening to classic rock from the 70’s, 60’s, and those were considered “oldies”. I was blasting Abba’s “Dancing Queen” the other day.

Ironically, todays music is so trash, that I dont think it will ever be considered, “oldies”. To me, “oldies” are timeless music to be treasured.

    This was a great post.

    • Classic rock from 60’s and 70’s are the best! Abba’s Dancing Queen brought a lot of happy memories for me and it was THE song played and loved in discos and bars. 😀 Amongst others…
For a 28-year-old, you’ve got an old soul! I’m with you on most of today’s music are trash… (oops! The Gen Zs and Millenials are going to kill me!)
Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment Vinny! 😀
