Exploring Budapest in under 10 hours

Category: Travels

The weather in Budapest was pretty chilly with nothing more than 5 degrees Celsius in the day, yet I have found it to be a very nice change from the bloody humid 35 degrees Celsius weather back in Bangkok. On the day we were due to leave, the temperature dipped to only 2 degrees Celsius.  And, I actually didn’t mind it at all.

I’ve heard a lot about Budapest before – mostly good stuff; notwithstanding their fabulous goulash of course.  And, if not for this work-related conference, I would think that Budapest will be in the back-burner just because that it’s a place that is not really at the top of my mind for places to visit. Frankly, I don’t think Hungary has ever made it to my list of the top 10 places to visit.

So I’m glad this happened. The scenery amazing, the vibes pretty chilled. Things are surprisingly quite affordable there too and really nothing too expensive. I did fret at the thought that we could only squeeze in a few hours a day to do some sight-seeing when we arrived and before we were bound back for Bangkok.

This was yet another view from my hotel this morning and it still took my breath away.

I am currently trying to post this up with a rather slow wifi connection while in a 3-hour transit in Dubai Airport before the next leg back to Bangkok. And I’ve been pretty annoyed since we got off the plane because it has taken us more than half an hour of walking, gate-to-gate, as we tried to navigate this huge-ass, confusing airport and going from train to train transfers just to get to the next gate. That was 45 minutes of blogging time wasted. I’ll be sure to avoid another transit in Dubai the next time I travel!

So, by the time you read this post, it is highly probable that I’ll still be up in the clouds and I haven’t quite get round to responding to any comments you may have left me…for at least a few days.

For now, I’ll leave you with some pictures from Budapest in the last few days with a  total of about less than 10 hours of down-time away from any work obligation and I have to say that Budapest has stolen bits and pieces of my heart.

There’ll be more to come in the next few days when I get my act together!
