Poffertjes: Fun Brekkie

Category: Food
It was one of those days where the start of the day just has to be sugary sweet, sinful and unhealthy. The mini-Dutch pancakes (pronounced as “Pofferteesh”) definitely make the cut for a  fun Sunday brekkie.  Poffertjes remind me very much of my very first holiday in Holland when I walked into a cafe in the cold mornings for a cup of coffee, armed with a book to watch the world go by before deciding what to do for the rest of the day. When I get the munchies, I would then order the pancakes and continue to amuse myself by stuffing my face silly with these miniature pancakes which are ahem…essentially meant for small kids!
The last time Silver Bullet was back in Holland, he decided to amuse me by bringing back the mixture, the authentic Dutch icing sugar and even the special pan in tow. I almost died laughing when he showed me what he brought back home! What an amusing privilege to have this Dutch brekkie treat right in from of me this morning prepared by a native Dutch chef!

Hate it!

Category: Ads

Whoever came out with the idea of this ad oughtta be shot. I cannot believe the clients themselves even as much approved this storyboard for the campaign to be telecast in Asia for months on end!

Seriously, this ad rates very high on my hate list and simply super annoying. Whatever the airy-fairytale concept they’ve got there, I just don’t get it. I feel like the entire ad is just an insult to my intelligence. Are they trying to sell LG appliances to 5 year olds? I’ve never been biased on this brand; in fact, I actually thought it to be a rather reputable and reliable brand… that is until after I saw this crap campaign over and over again. I wonder how many of those appliances did they eventually sell when this campaign was on air because people like it so much?

Dumbest ad ever. For that, I do not even like the brand now.

Sweet and Sour Chicken

Category: Grubbecipes
Something so simple like the Sweet and Sour dish can be so inconsistent the world over that usually, it ends up as a hit-and-miss dish for me. Most times, it’s not exactly anything special. I’m not so crazy about this dish per se given the usual sub-standard quality we tend to get here, but I do appreciate a good one once in a while. I almost forgot how good this dish can be if done right, as a sudden craving prompted me to whip it up at home.

I’m pleasantly surprised at the results myself and I dare shamelessly say while giving myself a pat on my own back that I make an addictively mean Sweet and Sour Chicken dish! :p Please excuse my shameless self-promotion. Here’s my version:

  3. Add garlic and saute the garlic until light brown, Then add in the yellow onions, followed by the carrots and bell peppers. Stir-fry until you smell the aroma and add in the sliced chillies.
  4. Add in all the ingredients for the sauce all at once and bring it to boil. Toss in the chicken, add the sliced tomatoes, chopped spring onions, do a few quick stirs, dish out and serve immediately with steamed white rice.
