Back in Bangkok

Category: Thaism

The sky was still all dark when I landed in Bangkok on early Sunday morning at some ungodly hours of 5.55 am but I was surprised at how crowded the airport was during that time.

That being said, I cleared immigration within 15 minutes and did not have  to wait too long to retrieve my baggage. As I made my way out of the airport, the sun had just said hi.

The day breaks with a bright yellow egg-yolk  and illuminated the sky with  some mighty orangey hue all over it. The journey home was a breeze. I got a cab within 2 minutes and I was home in 40 minutes; just in time to make it for Spud’s Sunday morning swimming lessons.

Travelling Business

Category: Travels

It has been such a long time since I last set foot in the United States ,yet I still remember how not fun it was to have to travel such a long distance and getting plenty of jet-lag from it. The journey including getting to the airport and transit time clocked up at least 30 hours per way, that is assuming the flight go as scheduled.

My flight from Miami was, unfortunately delayed for a bit and passengers had to wait around as we waited for the gate to be open for boarding. I was a little peeved off that a bunch of inconsiderate passengers had simply refused to remove their bags from occupying the seats when I politely asked them if I could sit on it. They looked at me as if I was mad instead, and flashed me an annoyed  and a “how-dare-you” look followed by a firm, and rude, “No, you cannot have it”.

I smiled at them when they said no and proceeded to give them the evil eye for the next half an hour.  The good thing about Miami Airport is that the cool design on the floor kept me occupied as I paced up and down the hallway trying to make sense of the writing on the floor. When I got tired, I sat on the carpeted flooring, did a little people-watching and gave the old couple some more evil eye! They took 2 extra seats between them – how bloody inconsiderate is THAT?!

The upside of traveling to the US for work however, despite its long journey, I get to travel Business Class. And one gets spoiled traveling on Business Class where you are constantly being served. Food is in abundance and you will always get too much too eat. The business class experience a akin to the depiction of sloth and gluttony. And for what it’s worth, the Swissair does provide excellent service!

Yet, I am convinced that Business Class is really the only way to travel where the seats are much more comfortable and that you are able to get some decent rest. If only it isn’t so expensive!

My flight itinerary

The wait from the delay in Miami to Zurich was tiring but the pilot made up for time while we were in the air. With only 1 transit back to Zurich, I had a rather reasonable transit time in between. The view as we flew over Zurich was amazing and I am making a mental note to be able to visit Switzerland and having a holiday in the Alps one of these days.

With no more long-distance work trips in the pipeline for the end of the year , it will be a while more before I get to travel on Business Class again. For  now, I am glad to be home. I am however, hating the jet-lag that comes with it.

Days in Miami: 2.5

Category: Travels

Miami is 12 hours behind Bangkok, and I am currently writing this at 5.35am on a Friday morning.  It is still dark outside.

My sense of time has gone a little awry these past few days. I have been severely jet-lagged as I am wide awake since 3.30 in the morning and getting no more than 3 or 4 hours of shut-eye since I got here. As with conferences, we tend to get cooped up in a meeting room all day, and so, I haven’t been able to get around outside the hotel that much. It has, however, been a lot of fun hanging out with crazy bunch of nutters from around the world and despite the jet-lagged , I have enjoyed myself thoroughly.

Today is my last day in Miami, and while I cannot wait to get home, I am not looking forward to another long, long journey. I still have sometime to get do a little exploring before my flight in the evening

Meantime, here are a couple of scenic views from my room ad what actually lurks behind the hotel:
