Just because

At about 9.30 am this morning, I received a call at my desk from a complete stranger asking me: if I am the person she was looking for, if I am going to be around to receive a delivery and if I am around, would I be around at a certain time. Feeling a little annoyed by the sudden “interrogation” which had broken my hard concentration from work, I answered her impatiently and quickly brushed her off before hanging up. I was in no mood for a chat.

Barely an hour later, the receptionist came smiling to my desk with this:

She then simultaneously handed me the card, all opened up for me to read , still grinning; and thereby making me wonder if she had read the contents first.

It was from my husband.

In the 9 years that we have known each other, and the 6 years that we have been married, this has only been the 2nd time Silver Bullet has ever given me flowers; the first dated way back in 2010,  when I was feeling really blue, and, this essentially marked the very first time he sent me flowers to my work place. It was for no other reason than just because.

Just because is nice. Just because is thoughtful and just because will, every now and then, remind me that I have a very loving husband who happens to be thinking of me. How super sweet.

For the unaware,  orchids typically symbolise love, luxury, beauty and strength. They can also signify healing and good health…perhaps an apt choice, given my through-the-roof stress level. Above all that, I do find them appealing to the eyes.

I should be so damn lucky to have such a thoughtful, considerate, loving, dedicated and oh-so-lovable husband who has decided to turn a little romantic. All of those traits, which I reckon, many women may find oh-so-adorable.

Like I said, I should be so lucky.

Such is the gesture of love.

Ah oh! BACK OFF. He is mine.

A 10-Baht Meal

Category: Thaism

Every morning, I pass by this side-walk vendor selling fish balls, fish cakes, squid balls as well as cuttlefish balls as I make my way to work. Almost every morning, I would get myself a bunch of deep-fried fish balls for breakfast.

Yes. Only 10-baht per stick!

The deep-fried version

Any one of those sticks, believe it or not, only cost 10 baht! The deep fried ones cost me 10 Baht too, but I get more than double the quantity. And every time I paid for them, I cannot even begin to tell you how amazed I am at how cheap those balls really are.

On the other hand, I wonder how does she even break-even when her charges are so low.Yet, she never fail to flash me a smile every time I walk past her.

This led me to think that, sometimes, the simplest people seem to be the happiest people in the world. They seem happy with what they have, make do with what they have, live life without imposing themselves on others and do not crave for what other people have which they can’t have.

Why can’t we all be that way?

Squirt’s Antics

When I saw this note written in Squirt’s book recently, I don’t know if I should laugh because it sounds so innocently funny or if I should feel worried/terrified of what he was up to sitting underneath the table. If it is the latter, I hope his teacher was wearing pants that day!

Maybe my mind was just on an over-drive!
