Sunday Humour: One of those days

This has been my week:

8c6b95911070e29cd9c718c07a8d52e7

Actually, a week is putting it mildly. It has been like that for several months now on the work-front and at present, I am feeling very connected to the quote.

There was this one meeting when I shared the economic outlook and when I got to the GDP number, the person in question had adamantly disagreed with the number that was being presented. He vehemently disagreed with what I put up and in a very condescending tone, told me off that I should not share the figures outside the room, because according to him, it looked ridiculous.

It was ONE number. And, it was a GDP number quoted by several credible sources such as The World Bank and the Bank of Thailand. Go argue with those.

He went on a rant for a good 5 minutes, almost berating its (or rather my) stupidity. I then asked nicely what he thought the number should be and he told me to change it to 1.5% lower. I then calmly told him that because it was an official forecasted figure quoted consistently across several articles and news sources, it was not something I could dispute, but we would, back in the office, monitor the numbers and adjust accordingly as the economy changes.

I had several WTFs per hour going on in my head as he continued to dismiss the numbers, as HE, did not believe it to be so. I bit my tongue with telling him that perhaps, he should just take up the issue with THE World Bank and THE holyness Bank of Thailand. Ask them to change the numbers.

I smiled instead.

It was later  in between his rants of how wrong we were on the forecasted number that he let it slip: That if the GDP looks “good”, he would have to answer to his management as to why he can’t make his sales. Ahhhh! That explains it all. It was his ass on the line. I guess his bosses are not very literate with Google.

In the end, I had to laugh (in my head, not directly at him while we were at it!). As soon as we got out of the building,  we laughed at the ludicrity and the absurdness of it all. My eyeballs suffered a severe sprain from having to roll them to the back of my head and back. Crazy people I deal with, no!

The world is a funny place. Or maybe it’s just Thailand. Oh! The story of my life.

Here’s to better days!

Fabulous Friday Flavour: Spicy Stir Fry Vegetables with Egg

After several days in Singapore and stuffing our faces with fabulous home-made food, I decided to do something simple from whatever leftovers I can find in the fridge.

Turned out, I had some fresh chillies, a bunch of Chinese cabbages, a couple of taters and a single, lone egg. So here we go with an easy, no-fuss, left-over ingredient-dump stir fry!

Thursday Thoughts

Category: Family life

It feels like ages ago since I last saw my dashboard. Being chest-deep with work since we got back from Singapore several days ago ensured that, and I even had to think about my password a little harder when I logged in.Oh! The days have been a little manic for my liking. My work has kept me off the streets and I’m bummed that I have not been able to catch up with other blogs; let alone having the chance to write.

So, it’s already Thursday. I haven’t blogged all week. Where did all that time go?! I have really missed my dashboard so dearly!

With so many things to do and so little time, it  wasn’t all chill and leisure when we were in Singapore either. There were some terribly stressful moments with an unexpected mishap that could have gone all wrong at home when my 3 YO niece got burned by a chaffing burner.

I just happened to be there when it all happened and somehow, without thinking and out of reflex, I managed to put out the fire on her dress with my bare hands while my brother relentlessly rescued her feet from the flames before Silver Bullet put out the smaller flames on the floor and then hauled her and my brother to the bathroom to get her under running water.

We were all pretty shook-up, particularly so my Mom and my brother. The situation could have been worse, but we all managed to react very quickly; each of us focused on different things at the same time, and had everything under control in the nick of the time –  albeit the panic on the side (we had guests too!) and me shouting at the top of my lungs at Silver Bullet, “Put it out!Put it out!” while I tried to kill the flames on her dress.

My niece had 2nd degree burns on her feet and even with her bandaged feet after an A&E visit, she was walking, running and smiling in no time at all. Kids are resilient and I think she probably won’t remember much of this in a few years time. Yeah, shit happens.

I still shudder when the image of bluish-flames on her dress and a burning carpet creeps into my head.It was a scary sight.

But despite all that, we managed to spend some quality family time and squeezing a little time with old friends who came to visit. I’ve always like the good fun of meeting up with some of my friends whom I have known for over a decade; friends whom I have lured to come over to my parents’ house so they could stuff their faces with mom’s cooking; and it’s not like they minded at all.

It was always good to meet them and chat about nothing and everything. This is the time when we re-hash our time together in school and to date, we still talk and laugh about it.  This time, we remembered to end our meet-up with a group photo, with kids and spouses in tow.

The kids had tons of fun, too! Over the weekend, we took them to a nearby playground as well as Marina Bay Sands Kids’ Waterpark where they can release all of their pent up energy. They both had a ball of a time mucking around like little monkeys on the loose and I’m so happy to see them happy. Tantrums are getting a lot lesser, although bedtime with the both of them in the same room is always a challenge!

That was pretty much our weekend in Singapore. It was a weekend to remember.
