Thursday Thoughts
It feels like ages ago since I last saw my dashboard. Being chest-deep with work since we got back from Singapore several days ago ensured that, and I even had to think about my password a little harder when I logged in.Oh! The days have been a little manic for my liking. My work has kept me off the streets and I’m bummed that I have not been able to catch up with other blogs; let alone having the chance to write.
So, it’s already Thursday. I haven’t blogged all week. Where did all that time go?! I have really missed my dashboard so dearly!
With so many things to do and so little time, it wasn’t all chill and leisure when we were in Singapore either. There were some terribly stressful moments with an unexpected mishap that could have gone all wrong at home when my 3 YO niece got burned by a chaffing burner.
I just happened to be there when it all happened and somehow, without thinking and out of reflex, I managed to put out the fire on her dress with my bare hands while my brother relentlessly rescued her feet from the flames before Silver Bullet put out the smaller flames on the floor and then hauled her and my brother to the bathroom to get her under running water.
We were all pretty shook-up, particularly so my Mom and my brother. The situation could have been worse, but we all managed to react very quickly; each of us focused on different things at the same time, and had everything under control in the nick of the time – albeit the panic on the side (we had guests too!) and me shouting at the top of my lungs at Silver Bullet, “Put it out!Put it out!” while I tried to kill the flames on her dress.
My niece had 2nd degree burns on her feet and even with her bandaged feet after an A&E visit, she was walking, running and smiling in no time at all. Kids are resilient and I think she probably won’t remember much of this in a few years time. Yeah, shit happens.
I still shudder when the image of bluish-flames on her dress and a burning carpet creeps into my head.It was a scary sight.
But despite all that, we managed to spend some quality family time and squeezing a little time with old friends who came to visit. I’ve always like the good fun of meeting up with some of my friends whom I have known for over a decade; friends whom I have lured to come over to my parents’ house so they could stuff their faces with mom’s cooking; and it’s not like they minded at all.
It was always good to meet them and chat about nothing and everything. This is the time when we re-hash our time together in school and to date, we still talk and laugh about it. This time, we remembered to end our meet-up with a group photo, with kids and spouses in tow.
The kids had tons of fun, too! Over the weekend, we took them to a nearby playground as well as Marina Bay Sands Kids’ Waterpark where they can release all of their pent up energy. They both had a ball of a time mucking around like little monkeys on the loose and I’m so happy to see them happy. Tantrums are getting a lot lesser, although bedtime with the both of them in the same room is always a challenge!
That was pretty much our weekend in Singapore. It was a weekend to remember.

Oh, that must have been horrifying! Glad that your niece is recovering quickly and that you had a great family and friends time despite the accident.
I couldn’t help but think ‘one is not like the others’, as I’m looking at the group photo, lol. That blonde head surely belongs to your husband, right? 🙂 Very beautiful family indeed!
Totally. I was shaking for quite a while. Not fun that. But yes, at least all’s well now – just bandaged little feet.
And you nailed it – that blonde is the husband! The only blonde-blue-eye one in our family! LOL. Thanks Jas! (and you make me want to hug you!!)
