What I did not mention in my post on “A Little Distraction That Almost Cost Me“ when I wrote about my adventures of being absent-minded during the entire month of February was the fact that I had lost my most expensive sunglasses I have ever owned in my entire life when I was in Singapore for my business trip.

To date, although I suspect that I may have left it in a fitting room, I still, for the life of me could not recall when and where I had last seen in. All that was left of me right after I discovered I had lost my precious 2-year old Rayban sunglasses somewhere in Singapore, was resignation. I was beyond frustrated and I did not even have the strength to reproach myself.

As with other material things I own, I see my sunglasses as a long-term investment. Hence, that means  I usually don’t mind paying a bit more for it as I tend to use them for a good few years. In fact, I usually get quite attached to it and so tend to be quite careful with where I keep my sunglasses, ensuring that it always stays on top of my head if it isn’t perched-up on my nose to shield my eyes from the rays of the sun. That being said, getting a pair of sunglasses that really fits my head has also become an important criteria for me when it comes to choosing a design.

But I gave an exception to this one Rayban sunglasses because I loved it so much when I bought it duty free in Singapore years ago:

It was easily one of my most stupidest mistake; but because  it was one of the few aviator designs available that fits my face (at least I think so!), I cut myself some slack on this one. It is also one of those designs with sturdy temples as I am not quite into the ones with really stick-thin temples. Unfortunately, with me being too attached to things that I like, it also means that I am usually quite inflexible to choosing a different design, and so I was none too thrilled when I discovered that I lost my favourite shades as I haven’t quite seen this one particular design anywhere in the world! (yes, I scoured for it when I was in Dubai, in Singapore, in Zurich and even in Miami!)

True to my personal curse, I believe they took that particular design off the shelf – although I was not quite willing to give up searching for that same exact design that I once had.

One thousand shops and many frustrated feelings of resignation later, I eventually found an unlikely shop that happened to have a stock of it.

ONE frigging pair.

And I found it, by chance as I passed by an optical shop located in a building of my former office building as I made my way to see an old friend for lunch! I didn’t take long to decide; I saw it, I tried it (this time making sure it fits nicely on my head), was told that there was a 30% discount and I immediately paid for it. Waiting for them to punch in the price, packed the damn thing ad issued me the receipt actually took longer than me trying it on and paying for it, but I thought the slight wait was worth it.

I finally got my Rayban back. Sweetness.
