Unlike most sweet chilli recipe, there is no use of vinegar here. It’s more of a personal preference as I’m not a big fan of using vinegar in any of my cooking at all. I do prefer  to substitute it with something little less acidic and more natural like lemon or lime.

Just look at that shine! Au naturel.

  4. 5-6 pieces fresh red chillies, pulsed with water (Deseed if you prefer non-spicy)

  3. Add soy sauce and pulsed chilli-garlic mixture together. Bring it to a boil.
  4. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes or till slightly thickened. Then add in the squeezed lemon juice
  5. Mix the corn flour and water into a smooth and slurry liquid

Notes
  1. The sauce will get thicken when cooled, so adjust the thickness with water as appropriate.

Easy right? You’ll ace this in no time. Meantime, check out my other Home-Made Hot Chilli Sauce recipe for a different palette. This, however, is the meaner version of chilli sauce but very worth it, nonetheless!

  1. Love chili sauce, it’s great that you make your own sauce rather than buying pre made. If I make with vinegar would you say it would be maybe 1/4 cup or 4 tbs?

    • I’m with the believe that food is always better with chilli on it. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hmmm…I’ve never tried using vinegar and from most recipes I have seen, they start with 1/4 cup. So I guess that’s a pretty decent amount. I have seen recipes with half or 3/4 cup. I assume they make a lot more sauce!

  2. Mmm, that sounds delicious and easy enough for me to try! And by easy, I mean I don’t have to look up what each ingredient looks like. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • hahahhah! This you can do it bkind-folded Jas. You would be the last person I’d expect to need a recipe for this.
On a side note, it’s fun to look up ingredients don;t you think? :p
