Eavesdropping Spud
I love teasing Spud. Sometimes she comes up with the most hilarious thing you would never think of. A recent bedtime night chat went like this:
Me: Can I sleep in your bed with you tonight?
Spud: No mama, you have your own bed
Me: (pretending to pout) But, but, I don’t want to sleep in my own bed.
Spud: Why Mama, you don’t like papa?
Me: I didn’t say that!
Spud: Is it because he is smelly? I know he can be smelly sometimes (she said it with so much empathy!). But it’s because he just hasn’t shower (and she said this with a shrug, with both her hands in the air)
At this point, I burst out laughing. My ears couldn’t believe what I have heard, and I am completely amused by her tone of voice as well as the facial expressions she portrayed when she said the words simultaneously.
Spud: I’m so sorry Mama. You have to sleep in your own bed first. Maybe after you do that, you can come stay with me for a while
Me: Hmmm…but I’m tired. I want to sleep here now.
Spud: No mama. It’s my bed.
Me: Sigh! Ok. I understand. I think I’ll sleep with Squirt then.
Spud: Oh. Ok. I think that’s ok. You can do that.
Says she with a smile.
End. Of.conversation.
Oh. What a cheeky little monkey. The mind of a 4 year old can be so amazing.
