A Beautiful Creature
This image came on my Twitter feed quite a while ago:

The most common English name for this butterfly is Glasswinged Butterfly. Mainly found in South America, it lacks the coloured scaled found in other butterflies and thus, the tissue between the veins of its wings looks like glass.
My first thought when I saw the image was that perhaps a fairy has forgotten to put colours on the butterfly! Sounds ridiculous, I know, but the reason I thought that, was simply because it reminded me of one Tinker Bell’s movie series – if I’m not wrong, it was entitled Tinkle Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue.
In that movie series, one of the fairies, whose job was to paint butterflies, had accidentally fumbled at her job. She could not paint the butterfly in time and the little unfinished creature flew off, only to be discovered by Lizzy, the little human girl who believes in fairies. Her father who works as a scientist with a fascination for butterflies however, does not believe in fairies. (But of course! So guess what happened?)

As you can tell, thanks to Spud, I have been watching too much Disney movies. But this post is not about Disney movies. It really is about this Glasswinged Butterfly which fascinated me.
Isn’t nature amazing? Such a beautiful creature!
Or perhaps, a fairy did really forget to paint the wings!
